For centuries, the treatment of African Americans has been a crucial focal point of American society. Since the Triangular Slave Trade in the early 16th century, white people and author figures have continued to assert their supremacy over African Americans. At the ending of slavery, acts like the Jim Crow Laws and the Grandfather Laws further suppressed blacks’ ability to truly be concerned as true citizens. Although discriminatory actions have been deemed as unconstitutional, today we are still faced with a major maltreatment and oppression of African Americans. Cases like Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, and Trayvon Martin make it extremely hard to ignore the fact that minorities are targeted for harassment every day. The basis of this paper will explore the theory of who is responsible for this mistreatment: whites or African Americans. Police often you use excessive force when dealing with African Americans, which is becoming a major issue in America. Police stereotype African Americans because of their appearance or the community they reside in, which shouldn’t be the case because a book can’t be judge by its cover. As Citizens in America we shouldn’t have to fear the people who are suppose too protect us. After researching different scholarly articles and analyzing a few internet sources, I will be able to share what I have learned from my studies. I’m Addressing this issue because police shootings and brutalities against African Americans went up with in the last 10 years.…
