The Treasure Coast Down Syndrome Awareness Group (2016) is a non-profit and support organization that is dedicated to enhancing the lives of a person with Down syndrome and creating awareness. The group helps to share information on education, health, advocacy, parenting issues, and anything else dealing with Down syndrome. The group offers resources through monthly meetings, public awareness programs, new parent information, resource library, Stand Up for Independence (SUFI) - a self-advocate program, and events for families or fund raising (TCDSAG, 2016). Project Lifesaver has been incorporated into this local area which provides first responders with equipment and training to quickly locate and rescue “at risk” individuals with cognitive disorders who are at constant risk to the life threatening behavior of wandering (Project Lifesaver, 2016).
