I believe that while one can start writing due to their love of reading, it is not always the tilting point in which one begins writing. Stephen King himself first started writing for his mother. King saw how his mother looked disappointed when he merely copied the words from one of his books to his journal, but saw how amazed his mother was when he wrote his own original piece. This event transpired into King beginning to write his own original pieces for the satisfaction of others. Also, many ideas that King transformed into books were not from reading but from personal experiences King had such as his adventures in "The Jungle" by his apartment. This "jungle" later turned into the "Barrens" of "IT." Additionally, events in King's life such

The Factual Jungle When Upton Sinclair wrote “The Jungle” he simply wanted a better-work environment and not for people to question what they were consuming. I believe that what Upton Sinclair wrote about the meat packing factories and the conditions of life in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s is true. Jurgis and his family lived their life similar to the actual real families in the height of this era according to Biennial Report of 1890. Even what Jurgis experienced everyday while working in Packingtown is the same environment that is described in the Harper Weekly article The President and the Meat-Packers.…

A successful published author will always have a story to tell about their failures, fears, and the people that impacted their writing. For authors such as Stephen King, his process of writing begins with a small idea, that sometimes sticks around and evolved into main characters or they become irrelevant by the end of his novel. During a podcast, Stephen King advices young writers to read a lot, write a lot, and continue to be inspired by their writing. Similar to Stephen King, another great fictional novelist by the name of Wally Lamb constantly changes the process of each novel he writes. For instance, he can be inspired by a voice, moving image, music or they can come to him via-anecdote.…

His writing style is unlike anything I’ve read before; I’ve read a lot of books. I was never a fan of nonfiction, but just from this book I’ve come to love King’s writing style. Because his writing is so captivating, I plan on reading other books he wrote. When people take what they know and teach other people, it’s truly a beautiful thing. King wrote this book because he wanted to show people how he became the writer he is today, to teach people of the mechanics of writing which he thought was the most important, to answer questions people had been asking him for years (pg 265).…

King first gives a brief summary of his own article. Before he lists the steps, he gives a small introduction about how this will only help if you really listen. Then, he gives a considerable number of ideas in list form of how to write successfully. King might be best known for writing horror novels but On Writing is a real work of high art and transforms genre in the otherwise dreading and plethora style of writing books. Dr. Lawrence Nannery, a professor of philosophy at St. Francis College, defines high art as having a full understanding of the work “can enhance an understanding of other aspects of life as well” and “does not reveal everything it has in one exposure.” For example, in prose, writing genres work to normalize certain academic aspects and beliefs embodied within them. But these aspects are often portrayed so incorrectly that they either border on, or are completely submerged in ideology. However, King transforms this genre and doesn't reveal it so easily and freely, what he does is makes individuals understand concepts that are otherwise unattainable in an unpredictable and unorthodox manner.…
