This could lead to her weakness because although the majority of people in Myanmar are Buddhist, the country is also filled with the minorities that are not Buddhist. Northouse explains that there are “two general kinds of behaviors: task behavior and relationship behaviors” (Northouse, p.71). Leaders who are task oriented focuses on wanting their “members to achieve their objectives” (Northouse, p.69), and leaders who are relationship oriented “help followers feel comfortable with themselves, with each other, and with the situation in which they find themselves” (Northouse, p.69). There were three main research done on the behavioral approach, one was by Ohio State on his Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaire, and the other was by The University of Michigan on the research of two types of leadership behaviors (employee orientation and production orientation). However, in this paper the Manegerial Grid by Blake and Mouton will be examined. Northouse explains that the Managerial/Leadership Grid “was designed to explain how leaders help organizations to reach their purpose through two factors: concern for production and concern for people” (Northouse, p.74). Concern for production “refers to how a leader is concerned with achieving organizational tasks” (Northouse, p.74), and concern for people “refers to how a leader attends to the people in the organization who are trying to achieve its goals” (Northouse, p.74). Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

Anita Satterlee's Organizational Management and Leadership: A Christian Perspective (2013) introduces these theories and concepts in the first two chapters of her book. Although there are numerous concepts we view as important, the three most important are trust, the study of behavioral management, and quantitative management. The first concept trust, is the beginning step for effective management and leadership.…

A paradigm of leadership, as such, provides one with the personal guiding principles necessary to effectively navigate one’s role in a group or organization. When I asked about her understanding of leadership, Cathy first and foremost distinguished positional leadership from personality leadership. The former, she said, is based on power, whereas the latter is based on skills and attitudes. “There are plenty of positional leaders who lack personal leadership and there are plenty of personality leaders who lack position or power,” she elaborated. Cathy went on to assert that how an individual navigates an organization and one’s role in an organization determines the quality of leadership.…

That definition makes you realize it’s a skill by using the word art. The strongest leaders aren’t ones that force their men through fear, they use persuasion to make their people form ideas for themselves and decide to work off of their own ideas. A leader is someone who is in charge of a team, not a group. A group of people can all have a common goal, but do not work together to achieve that goal. A team is people who all have…

Leadership Style Self-Assessment 1 After taking the style questionnaire during while studying the Leadership Grid in Northouse; as expected, I found that my leadership style varies, although of the three theories discussed, more closely relates to team leadership. My assessment found my strengths to be with authority compliance (9,1) and team management (9,9). As suggested by Northouse (2012), “The 9,1 style of leadership places heavy emphasis on task and job requirements, and less emphasis on people, except to the extent that people are tools for getting the job done” (p. 79). The Team Management style is based on tasks and relationships. I consider myself more tasks orientated and analytical, while spending less time with my subordinates’ personal issues.…

In my work history, I worked for a gentleman at a coffee shop in Ann Arbor who I categorize as an “Authority-Compliance Manager, a leader who places most of the importance on the task and getting the job done. My boss at the coffee shop was concerned about the sales and how customers were being treated, but did not communicate with his employees unless it was absolutely necessary and only about business. According to Peter Northouse (2015), this leadership style involves communication with the followers and leader, not a linear or one way event but an interactive event (Northouse, 2015, p. 6). This type of leadership engages everyone and makes followers feel valued, and as if they can communicate any issues that may arise. In relationship leadership, the leader is an advocate for making the work place pleasant, treating others with respect and dignity, as well as building camaraderie and helping people get along. This leadership style is what I feel will help subordinate’s work together and become more productive, allowing each person to be accountable with less conflict. Although not all conflicts are bad, improvements have come about as a result of some conflicts which in turn are a good thing.…
