1. Based upon the information provided in class on the traits and characteristics of entrepreneurs, evaluate whether you fit the stereotype. Explain.
Based upon the material we have covered in class on different types of entrepreneurs. I would consider myself as a Habitual entrepreneur, because I would like to start one business. The reason is, I think if I started on I could focus more on one thing. Also I wouldn’t want to sell something I worked on so hard to start. Plus if it was something I enjoyed I would probably do it for the rest of my life.
2. Reflect on the family, educational background, entrepreneurial personality, and career patterns of Cornelius Vanderbilt. Analyze the important tactics used to achieve success. Why were these strategies successful? What are your impressions? What do you think?
My thoughts on the ‘Commodore’ are that if his attitude wasn’t what it was than people wouldn’t have respected the man as much as they did. One quote “Vanderbilt’s competitive abilities were so feared that rivals actually paid him to leave the Hudson River and let them get on with their businesses” (History Channel). I think this helped fuel his ego and urge to take his empire as far as he could. His career patterns as selling everything and investing into the railroad was what built America.
