John Proctor Tragic Hero

A tragic hero is the main protagonist, a character with the potential to have heroic qualities. The tragic hero has a future of facing some sort of supernatural force or is fated by “the gods” to have a great suffering downfall or potentially a death. The tragic hero will potentially have a “tragic downfall”. The tragic downfall is what creates a relation and interest with the reader and this character. The story is usually set up for a great goal to be accomplished and the character that goes to achieve this goal is the tragic hero. The readers or audience will have sympathy for the tragic hero as he suffers and faces struggles. The goal sometime is not ever reached, and if it is the character usually dies achieving it. The struggle of this character is what creates the story, and is why people are interested in them. John Proctor represents the tragic hero in The Crucible. John Proctor as an …show more content…
Abigail was supposed to be a help around their house and ended up causing more problems than ever imagined. Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife was sickly at the time of this affair. The affair happening caused Elizabeth to kick out Abigail, which immediately turned Abigail against Elizabeth… and knowing that when Abigail doesn 't get her way, it 's not a great sight. John was some sort of attracted to her because he knew it was something he shouldn 't of been doing, she is sneaky, some guys just like to figure out girls. When she 's telling John Proctor about dancing in the woods he claims ”Ah, you’re wicked yet, aren’t y! You’ll be clapped in the stocks before you’re twenty.” and he laughs as he says it. He flirts in a way that also challenges her. These things were happening during the witch trials which caused Abigail to find some sort of way to get the blame off her, and onto everyone else.
