Antigone, the play written by Sophocles, is about the dangers of pride and how it causes catastrophe for Creon. He nevers listens to reason or anybody else because he does not want to admit when he is wrong. He does this out of pride and it eventually ends up accidentally killing the ones he loves most and leaves him with nothing. Creon’s tragic flaw is his pride/hubris and he could avoid many problems if he did not have this flaw. His pride caused him to ignore others opinions that may have been helpful or beneficial to him. He ignored the sentry, his son, his wife, and all the citizens of Thebes because they feared him too much to speak up. “Fate has brought all my pride to a cloud of dust.” His pride, or tragic flaw, has ruined his life and the killed the ones he loved, which proves that he has a tragic flaw with a tragic outcome. Many tragic heroes have the same problem with pride that Creon does and it shows how Creon relates to the tragic hero concept. “I would not yield. I am not afraid of pollution. No man can defile the gods.” Creon is stubborn because of his pride and it causes him to make many unwise choices that lead to his tragedy. He would not even listen to his own son that was only wanting the best for Creon, and because of this he made his son his enemy.
