Odysseus made it back home after practically 20 years, with the loss of numerous men. He was finally home, but no one knew. To show him being clever and extra safe, he was disguised by Athena. He played the part well of being an innocent elderly beggar to be able to follow through with his plan. His wife and son motivated him even if they didn’t know it. He showed perseverance by not giving up through all of his hardships. He certainly didn’t decide to quit when he got home either. He remained persistent with his fight for his family by getting rid of all of the suitors that were slowly but surely destroying his home and family. Odysseus even went through a few physical hits before his plan was ready and all of the suitors, besides a few innocent ones, were murdered. The loyal servants and friends were saved and some even helped by lending a hand in eliminating the suitors.
Overall, these were just two of the several setbacks Odysseus suffered from over the years. The Odyssey had multiple other different and minor themes that echoed throughout the story. Odysseus managed to get through all of these struggles and achieved his goal. He returned to his family and to his home,
