Rock And Roll Scandals

Great Essays
There have been many scandals in the history of rock and roll. One that always comes to mind is the tragedy of the Altamont Speedway Free Festival in California on December 6, 1969. Many thought it would be the next Woodstock and in some ways it was. Approximately 300,000 fans attended and there were many acts scheduled such as Jefferson Airplane, Santana, and CSNY, with the Rolling Stones as the final act. Grateful Dead was scheduled to play, but cancelled just prior to stage time because of the increasing violence at the concert. Besides 18-year-old Meredith Hunter who suffered fatal stab wounds during the concert (reportedly by a member of the Hell’s Angels who were providing some sort of security for the event), there were several births …show more content…
This would not make the top of any “Top Scandals” list, but I happened to see this show and I can still remember how sad I felt for Taylor Swift. President Obama was heard calling West a “jackass” (Time Magazine 2015). On September 13, 2009, during the 2009 MVT Video Music Awards, Kanye West jumped on stage and interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for her win for Best Female Video. West felt that Beyoncé should have won for “Single Ladies”. It is such a shame that a young woman, still a teenager, had her first major award like this ruined. I acceptance time so Swift could give her speech. Elvis Presley gyrated in the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956 (Rosenberg 2015). Because Elvis had used body gyrations during performances on other shows like the Milton Berle Show, Sullivan had decided he did not want him on his show. These performances were considered provocative and very unsuitable for audiences. Sullivan had to have a change of heart after Elvis performed on the Steve Allen Show, which was televised during the same time as the Sullivan’s show, and had double the viewers. Although this performance was shown in New York from the stage in California, it was still a huge …show more content…
He used his credit card to access a child porn website, which he claimed was to assist him in researching child abuse. He was writing his autobiography, “Who I Am”, and as he was abused as a child, he wanted to show how the child porn industry was taking money. He says he never did enter the site. He said that what he did was “wrong and stupid,” My culpability is clear…but my innocence is absolute.” (Swanson 2013). There is a lot of evidence proving that he never did actually enter the site, but he was placed on the offender list because he refused to go to

So many people died. Some people were killed by the bomb and the horrible injuries that they sustained from the nails and shrapnel tearing through their flesh. Other people were killed in the hysteria that ensued after the bomb went off. People were trampled when they fell to the ground trying to run away. Many parents now refuse to let their children go to concerts and it’s all because of this event,” I said as great big tears began to well in her eyes.…

I remember hearing on the news about a young African American girl who was turning 10 years old and another little girl who was white sent her RSVP saying that she would not be able to attend her sleepover because her dad would not let her come, being that the party was for a black girl. I was shocked and disgusted that a parent would tell their child something as sickening as that. As a world we should try to change the perspectives of not only African American women, but every individual of every race, because it goes so much further than…

The “feud” between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards. During the VMA’s, Swift won Best Female Video for her song “You Belong with Me.” When Swift went up on stage to accept her award, she was interrupted by West who grabbed a mic and said, “Yo, Taylor, I 'm really happy for you and I 'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” Swift’s response to West’s impromptu mini speech was a look of shock and embarrassment, an immediate appeal to pathos. The backlash from this incident painted West as a…

The last adaptation of Lysistrata I had heard of was Lysistrata Jones, a 2011 musical comedy about cheerleaders who withheld sex from their basketball player boyfriends until they won a game, and this did not seem to fit the Blackwell Agenda I knew so well. What did Gloria believe she could do to remove the inherently sexist attitude of the original production and…

However, long mysterious lies which are deceiving, confusing, and about wrong doings are not ever justified. In the article, “Teens Do Their Share of Lying,” by Loretta Ragsdell, she interviews teenagers about some of the lies that they have told and why they do it. In one case, 16 year old Shontea recalls, “‘The best lie I have ever told was when I had taken the car and didn’t get a chance to put it back before my mother knew it was gone...I told her I had taken it to get it washed for her as a birthday surprise, but the carwash was closed. She thought that it was so thoughtful, she didn’t even holler about me driving without a license,”(Ragsdell…

As such, Jacob Ind felt trapped in his situation and acted in the only way he could think of as an adolescent. His situation and mental state should have had some effect on the sentencing he was to be given. Another reason why juveniles should only be tried as adults in certain circumstances is society has taken to judging adolescents who are vaguely involved with crime harshly. For example, in the video “When Kids Get Life”, Erik Jensen was sentenced to life without parole, though he did nothing but witness the murder and help get rid of the evidence. He was given the same sentence as the murderer Nathan Ybenez himself without ever having a hand in the murders themselves.…
