Hamlet cared about himself more than anyone else. He is very indecisive by saying, “To be or not to be”. (Shakespeare III.I) Hamlet spends a lot of time on thinking through to avenge his father’s death. As a result, misses many opportunities to do so. This can be evident in his soliloquy when he says, “To die, to sleep—/No more—and by a sleep to say we end/The heartache and the thousand natural shocks/That flesh is heir to”. (Shakespeare III.II.) .This is important because instead of looking for his father’s torments of purgatory, he is seriously thinking about suicide. As a result, delays the death of Claudius. Hamlet has been taking revenge on many unnecessary deaths. The killings of Polonius, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were all results of Hamlet. Hamlet never showed any regrets or guilt for his evil actions. He doesn’t even feel bad for Polonius’s death, but instead blames Polonius himself. He says, “Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell.I took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune.”(Shakespeare III.IV). The same situation has happen to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Hamlet was to be send to England planned by Claudius and Polonius. He was escorted by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern however, outsmarted all of them. Hamlet was able to write a different letter that said Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were to be executed, and therefore escape his death. He acts with no remorse putting their names saying, “Their defeat. Does by their own insinuation grow.” (Shakespeare V. II)He explains to Horatio that he has loss sympathy for them.
