Emergency Incident Analysis

During the times of a crisis certain individuals stand out whether by plan or simply by accident. These individuals usually possess certain traits that are shared by some of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. Let us take a moment to identify just a few of the best and worst traits that are often used when an emergency incident occurs. During an emergency incident the environment is usually total chaos and uncoordinated. The ability to coordinate the uncoordinated and chaotic environment that surround an emergency scene is a priceless. A good leader will be able to quickly assess their surroundings but also the abilities of those individuals to establish a order to the incident. As order is being established this provides the leader the opportunity to set priorities and quickly formulate a plan of action to accomplish a desired out comes. Now if an individual finds himself or herself in command of an incident without the ability to establish order and coordinate the assets of a scene then total chaos remains. The ultimate goal for any leader in an incident to insure that all those involved return to their daily lives with only small non-life threatening injuries but preferrable without any type of injury at all when possible. This is not always possible since regardless of the best planned actions sometimes individuals die due to circumstances beyond a leader’s control. This is an example of the burden that leader’s across the nation during emergency incident must live with for the remainder of their career and life.
