The first person to blame is Friar Lawrence. Although he doesn’t get blamed for everything, he does get a good chunk of the blame. Who recently(that is if you have just recently read the book) bit the dust. Mercutio pretty much started everything, and got the ball rolling. Mercutio convinces Romeo to go to the party in the first place. If Mercutio didn’t convince Romeo to go to the party, then Romeo would have never met Juliet, and nothing would have happened. Also, it is Mercutio’s fault because he died. Since he was arguing with Tybalt, it led to his death. Finally, because of Mercutio’s death, Romeo went into a rage and killed Tybalt, which led to Romeo getting banished from Verona, and so on in the story. Mercutio kind of jinxed it too. As he was dying he said, “And soundly too. Your houses!” (3.1 104-104) This, in english, translates to him saying “curse your families”. He jinx’s it because the families actually do become cursed, and Romeo and Juliet die.
In the end, Friar Lawrence, Tybalt’s sword, and Mercutio are to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is blamed because he had a terrible plan. Tybalt’s sword is to blame because it led to Romeo’s banishment, and Mercutio is to blame because he got himself killed. I would say all of the elements helped cause this tragedy, don’t you
