Many of the women and children are the ones to suffer because their husbands die and leaves them in economic poverty with children to feed or women who are sold to trafficking by drug lords, their husband or other family members who don’t value them. There are two different types of trafficking that occurs in Mexico: Human sex trafficking and drug trafficking. Trafficking is define as the trade or dealing of something illegal which is transported/transfer through force threats and lies. Women unfortunately tend to be in the middle of both situations plaguing Mexico. In many cities like Ciudad Juárez Mexico, thousands of women have died due to the trafficking of humans. With the drug Trafficking comes a lot of young women who are entered into the sex trafficking aspect of the war in Mexico. There are 31 states in Mexico and out of the states, 16 reported that 848 women have been victims of sex trafficking and the remaining states could not come up with the data needed (ONC, 2014). There have been countless of women who have told their horror stories of the way they were force into prostitution. Many of the women stood out but one in particular name Marcela who was tricked into becoming a prostitute at the tender age of 16. She met a man claiming to be a wealthy business man who promised happiness and marriage but that was far from the truth. She relocated from her family to be with this man and instead was entered into sex trafficking. She would have sexual relations with several men for as low as 15 dollars per man (Acharya, et al., 2015). Marcela was states say, “When it was happening, I just blocked it out, as it was so painful and It took me a long time to regain any confidence in myself, to rebuild my life”( ). Can you imagine how many girls and women who were promise the same thing and was force into lies? Many of them also inherit the risk of their fathers, brothers and/or husband. A lot of the women that become sex traffic slaves or drug mules tend to become self-conscious to the point their personal identity is lost to them. The women basic human rights are violated and the trafficking takes away the women’s safety, personal integrity, humanity, and so many other things we would not even begin to understand.
