My Fatherhood Analysis

Goodnight stories, dancing while standing on top of his feet, eating food mom does not usually let you, making messes, and learning to fix things are all traditionally things done with a father figure. I did not experience this traditional sense of fatherhood I was never a Daddy’s girl, but my father was present. My father was not a bad guy, but he was the hard worker type. Therefore, we never truly bonded with his busy schedule. Then everything changed my parents got divorced and mom met someone new. My biological father unable to cope with everything just became absent and because I was young and never had a strong bond with my father what semblance of a relationship we had crumbled. My connotation of family became misconstrued because I did not really know where I …show more content…
Mom was definitely displaying some odd nonverbal passive behavior (Galvin, 2011). Finally I asked and she claimed one of her ex-boyfriends from high school worked at that store. I assumed he must be terrible or at least awkward guy for her to act this crazy. After no longer being able to avoid this man we went up and spoke with him. After this brief conversation I could not figure out why my mom had made such a big deal about this man. He was just some nice normal guy. Uncertainty Reduction is a theory described by Charles Berger and Richard Calbese to explain how strangers reduce uncertainty during initial reactions (Galvin, 2011, p.34). When I first met Dean I was uncertain about his character because of my mom’s behavior, but after having a conversation I quickly learned this was not an intimidating guy. Therefore, uncertainty reduction was just the beginning of a beautiful relationship all because I predicted incorrectly about Dean’s character. This is only the initiation of our relationship now moving into experimenting where our relationship truly began to develop (Galvin,

Langston Hughes’ poem “Mother to Son” dramatizes the conflict between perseverance and conceding in life, as depicted in the conversation between a mother and her son. The first line of the poem “ Well, son…” indicates that the mother has been asked a questions about the tribulations of life by her son and responded endearingly to him in an effort t explain that life has pit falls but you must never give up, instead you should continue climbing the ladder of success.…

Slavery in Brazil began around 1532 and lasted until the 1800s. After Brazil abolished slavery, African slaves soon gathered in settlements in Rio de Janeiro. Favelas or shantytowns are inside and around large cities in Brazil, and homes are constructed with brick and cement. Due to poverty in the larger populated areas in the favelas, it was easy for a mother to grieve over her dead baby. People usually mourn when someone they love passes away, in Brazil, people no longer grieved over death.…

In the reading, I find it interesting a few of the points the father made, in which we can relate to today as well. In the first paragraph there is relevant information we live by today such as when the Akkadian Father brings up “maintain justice for your enemy, be friendly to your enemy.” Many of us know the saying keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I suspect he is conveying the same message some believe in today, to teach his son the enemies will be unsure of the intensions being formulated furtively of them. Deceive the opposing side into assuming the son will mean no harm, however, he soon may retaliate when they least expect it.…

It is a father’s love for his daughter that leads to Luke's dilemma between pursuing the truth to doing what is just and right, and love of the daughter. " A Father's Story," by Andre Dubus explores the love of a father to his daughter that he is willing to protect her even if the process calls for him to sacrifice part of himself. To protect his daughter, the father is forced to undergo challenges, a conflict of the mind and his values. In the story, Luke Ripley who is the protagonist drops his core principles and ethical values purposely to protect his daughter. I agree that the central conflict in "A Father's story" is a betrayal of a friend's trust and personal values and ethics for the sake of love.…

Who to Ask: Dad, or the Internet? Many teenagers are awestruck with technology, and frequently turn to it before their own fathers. Simultaneously, fathers are becoming more involved in their children’s lives. Sons are referring to technology rather than their fathers, and are struggling with tasks because of this. When sons consult their fathers, they are more successful at accomplishing tasks; this also strengthens the father-son bond.…

As I compare myself to my 65 year-old father, I have noticed some striking differences based on our generations, a type of birth cohort which is named and typified. My father is a part of the Baby Boomers generation who benefits the greatest financially, where that generation is most affluent, whereas the millennials are the poorest because we are inheriting all the debt from older generations. I think it is interesting to see how the brain thinks differently between a younger and older generation. I think about how my brother who is 25 is much more progressive on social issues than my father. My brother believes the the rich should have higher taxes and that there should be more federal funding programs to assist the livelihood of those under…
