Making decisions can be at certain times very easy, and other times very difficult. Decisions are made on a daily basis, for a great variety of different reasons. With some being bigger and more important then others these decisions require time to consider all the different possibilities and different results. In the short story, The Waters of Babylon, certain characters were put into tough situations and were forced to make some tough decisions. These tough decisions don’t just happen in stories, as they frequently happen in everyday life, specifically professional athletes. Decisions are a privilege, someone has been granted the ability to chose what they want to, the only thing is we don’t always make the right choice.
Throughout The Waters of Babylon, the main character, John, is partaking in a spiritual journey, in order to find his inner self. During his journey he is given multiple signs telling him to go east, even though going east is forbidden. John is forced into the tough decision of either following the signs telling him to go to forbidden land, or listen to the elders and stay away from what is forbidden. To get to the level of a professional athlete, to become the best in the world at what you do it takes dedication, endless hours of training and all out commitment.
