Jakob’s colors is the original and current title for the book. I read the electronic edition of the book.
The story begins in 1944 and also ends in 1944. However, the story jumps around in time, going all the way back to 1927. Eventually, these different stories converge into one, thus telling the entire story from 1927 to 1944.
Jakob’s tale takes place in Austria, while his parents stories are not limited to Austria. Lor was born in England and lived there until she was put into an institution in Austria. Yavy was born in Switzerland and lived there until he was also sent to Austria, into the same institution as Lor. It does not follow a chronological order, but instead starts with Jakob’s story and then describes the steps taken to get to that point by Lor and Yavy. Lor’s backstory continues in this part sending her to an institute in Austria. Yavy’s backstory also send him to Austria where the two stories converge into one. The last chapter in part three described how Lor and Yavy left the academy together. Part four removes the backstory of Lor by herself. Yavy is now present throughout the chapters from her points of view. Yavy’s backstory is still being told at this time. Once Yavy and Lor split up again, their stories split in 1943. In part five, the stories of Yavy and Lor in 1943 are told until they converge. The book then ends in Jakob’s point of view in
