Reading the title of the book reveals one of the main characters, Jakob. The back of the book reveals more information about him. He is a Roma boy living in Austria during World War II. He is trying to run from the Nazi’s persecution of the Roma people within Europe. Colors seem to play an important part in the book as they are in the title and are described in the back of the book. Jakob’s colors is the original and current title for the book. I read the electronic edition of the book.
The story begins in 1944 and also ends in 1944. However, the story jumps around in time, going all the way back to 1927. Eventually, these different stories converge into one, thus telling the entire story from 1927 to 1944.
Jakob’s tale takes place in Austria, while his parents stories are not limited to Austria. Lor was born in England and lived there until she was put into an institution in Austria. Yavy was born in Switzerland and lived there until he was also sent to Austria, into the same institution as Lor. All the characters in the story converge into the same place, even though they all started in different countries.
This book is told from three different views. Jakob’s view, Lor’s view, and Yavy’s view. Each character has their own story told until they converge with each other. Every chapter changes the point of view. One chapter will have describe Jakob’s story and another will describe Lor’s story. Even if another main character is in a chapter, that chapter will still be told from only one of their

The book has three different points of view that take place in different time periods. It does not follow a chronological order, but instead starts with Jakob’s story and then describes the steps taken to get to that point by Lor and Yavy. For example, the first chapter starts in 1944 and then the second chapter goes back to 1943. Additionally, the book is split into five parts. Each part either adds or subtracts a time period. The first part starts off with Jakob’s story in 1944 and Lor’s story in 1943. In part two, Lor’s backstory of living in England is added. Part three adds Yavy’s backstory of living in Switzerland. Lor’s backstory continues in this part sending her to an institute in Austria. Yavy’s backstory also send him to Austria where the two stories converge into one. The last chapter in part three described how Lor and Yavy left the academy together. Part four removes the backstory of Lor by herself. Yavy is now present throughout the chapters from her points of view. Yavy’s backstory is still being told at this time. Once Yavy and Lor split up again, their stories split in 1943. In part five, the stories of Yavy and Lor in 1943 are told until they converge. The book then ends in Jakob’s point of view in

We could not find any time period in this short story. Another story will tell us about the time, the place, and many information that related. On the other hand, this story doesn’t have it. The only period, we could find is “1973” at the bottom of the last page (page 321), which is not good for an information, reader don’t know what that means. It should be better if the writer put about the year, like 1945, 1964, or another period inside the…

The relationship between Christine, Heed, Junior, and May is throughout the whole novel, but the beginning starts with an omniscient character named “L” introducing them as adults to kids, and from past to present. Showing the different times of Cosey 's life after being dead to when he was still alive, and how his immediate family is living their life without him. Morrison 's non linear style is confusing and distracting, where reading and paying more attention happens over and over again. Morrison 's historical references is what defines her work and what gives readers a better understanding of her type of literature. The time frame, 1940 to 1990 provides background information of the time period in her novel where and why everything occurred.…
