According to Gladwell’s (2000) The Tipping Point, change can be contagious and small events can have large consequences. If organizations are going to not only survive, but thrive, they must plan to change. Purposefully planned change can spread like a virus and have a major impact on the success of the organization. Before a change virus can be spread, the message, or story, must be determined, defined, and clearly communicated. Determining the story and using a variety of creative ways regarding how that message will be communicated will ensure that the messages or changes sticks. To spread the change virus or cause an epidemic, organizations must identify the connectors, mavens, and salesman that support the change. These folks must have …show more content…
While this information is useful and included in Burke’s (2014) book on Organizational Change, he also includes sources from other non-traditional literature.
Organizational Theory Literature
Organizational theory literature, such as organizational psychology, organizational and management theory, and organizational behavior, is included in Burke’s (2014) book. Because organizational theory literature tends to focus on continuity and stability and Burke includes information on discontinuity and change, the availability of such literature is limited, thus the need for Burke to seek out other more non-traditional types of literature. Including information from only these more traditional models would have given the reader a narrower view and understanding of organizational change.
