Kinzer in the book Overthrow talks about modern American history. He offers strong argument, and all through the book beginning with sugar plantations in Hawaii, he carefully goes through both assumed past situations and historic events accounts to make his main argument, America is great at ousting nations and very awful at recognizing what to do a short time later. Proposition 55 should be passed because of the fact that the school system would receive funding from $4 billion to $9 billion. This funding will prevent cuts in school budget as well as cuts in extracurricular activities. According to “Can Gov. Jerry Brown keep the promises he made with Proposition 30?”, an article by Chris Megerian in the LA Times, “education funding could face billions of dollars in cuts, said Jennifer Wonnacott, a spokeswoman for this year’s tax campaign.” These cuts mean that the first cuts to be made will be the teachers and that will only damage the teacher shortage even more. The article, “Yes on 55 school claim misses the mark”, by Chris Nichols, an author for the online website of Politifact.com states that these cuts would…

I disagree with O’Brien’s thesis because I believe we are just as empathetic as we were 20 years ago. Tragedies are happening so often that they are becoming a part of everyday life. News is all about shock value today and the best shock value is bad news. With the constant stream of news in our everyday lives, it is becoming harder to focus on a specific event without another being shared with us immediately afterwards. As O’Brien stated, “the tragedies all run together, making it harder to care in any sort of sustained way” (O’Brien 4).…

By creating more jobs, the government can keep the people occupied with a reason to get through the day without getting involved with MS 13. El Salvador is one of the many countries in poverty. Hungry for Change Why is it that law mandates public school meals have a minimum calorie intake, but not a maximum? The argument creates the conflict and forms the controversy between the two sides. As said in the story, “A woman’s unfailing reaction in any crisis, the colonel says, is to scream. And while a man may feel like it, he has that ounce more of nerve control than a woman has.” He believes that men may also want to scream but they don’t because of the ounce more nerve control they have. This is the stereotypical point the colonel is trying to prove, but the young girl opposes.…
