The Time I Almost Drowned

Have you almost drowned before? Well when I was 5 years old I almost did. It was a really hot day, and my mom and my neighbors across the streets mom were really good friends so they decided it would be a good idea to have both of our families go to the beach. And I liked the other kids across the street so I like the idea too.

When we got to the beach nobody was there besides us so that was cool. And this beach was one of those beaches where you had to go extremely far out just for it to get up to your neck because of all of the sandbars that were everywhere so it took like 20 minutes to get that far out.

And when we got out we did what you’d usually expect kids to do at the beach, but then we were gonna see who could stay underwater the longest, and the whole time there were waves, they weren't strong waves or anything, but enough to move a bunch of little kids. And I knew that I’d win because I could hold my breath for a really long time, and so when we were underwater the waves pushed us and the waves ended up pushing me a few feet out further and while I was underwater I didn't even notice.

So I calmed down for a little bit but then I could feel myself losing breath so I struggled to get back up and I was losing breath fast. I didn't even know if I was going up or if I was going down. But then I see a bunch of bubbles and a little bit of light so I went that direction. I eventually after so much force got back up and took a huge breath, I was about 15 feet away from everyone else and they are acting like nothing

I knew something was horribly wrong when I woke up on a lemon shaped inner-tube in a sea of squishy macaroni and cheese. Ever since I was little, the smell, texture, and pretty much everything about macaroni and cheese disgusted me. Cheese was meant to be sprinkled on top of noodles, not engulf them. Looking around at the yellow encrusted rocks and the velveeta cheese waterfalls, I felt like I was living a real life nightmare. Just over the ledge I could see what appeared to be a giant drop off.…

We made it down to the beach eventually; the sun high above our heads. Mom made us put on these god awful red sun hats with the little neck flap on the back. We whinged and moaned, mostly over all the time she spent making sure that we all had enough sunscreen on, that our hats were on right and warning us not to stay in the sun for too long. We spent the day splashing about in the shallow water and collecting coloured rocks and interesting sea shells from along the long stretch of beach.…
