The Tide Falls Poem

This poem is really interesting and caught my eye. When I read it, I didn’t know what to think of it at first. Then I went ahead and read it again and tried to see all the symbolism and imagery. I guess my favorite part of the poem is the way it connects with real life activity. When he describes how the footprints he left are forgotten, that happens to most people everyday. Someone could have done something great but no one remembers who he is. It also can all happen overnight and with as little effort as just a wave passing over it. The poem really shows that no matter how big something you do is, not everyone will remember it. The poem starts with the sun setting and darkness starting to overcome the town. The setting is taken at the sea …show more content…
When it is described that the sun was setting and it became twilight, I could see in my head the way twilight looks with all its beauty right before nightfall. When described as the tide rises and the tide falls, in my head I hear sounds of the tide rising and falling as it would if I were at the beach for real. I could also smell the saltwater of the ocean as if I had actually been there. Feeling the wind through my hair as the story takes place on a beach where it is usually windy. The taste of the saltwater (don’t ask) on my tongue as the tide rises and then falls. To really get the feeling of being at the beach as described, you must been to the beach before to get the perfect sense of being there but his imagery was so perfect, you could picture it without ever actually going. He also uses symbolism when describing how the tide rises and falls to tell us that great discoveries or adventures will rise and become popular but can easily just vanish like the …show more content…
Throughout the whole poem, the line, “The tide rises, the tide falls,” was used countless times. About two times per stanza. Using this form of poetry really makes you think about what the author is trying to say. As it is said, when you hear something enough times, it gets stuck in your head until you can understand it. Rhymes were also used. Not only because it is a poem and they usually rhyme but to get the attention of the reader. If the poem sounds like it can be a song, it did the job as it will get stuck in people’s head while they are in their bed. (see what I did

Longfellow had experienced the deaths of both his wives, Mary Storer Longfellow and Frances Elizabeth Longfellow, who both had tragic endings. The feeling of distraught and depression for losing the two women whom he had grown to love and cherish was something that he felt so strongly, which had greatly impacted his work and life. We can see the distressful tone that is depicted throughout the poem. This was in one of his last collection of poems to be published nearing his time of death.…

E.J. Pratt’s poem “Erosion”, though short, is filled with many details that enhance the poem’s meaning. From the visual and the structural appearance of the poem to the many literary devices used, Pratt allows the reader’s mind wander to find the images of oceans, waves and time passing by. This poem is very complex and therefore the focus on this analysis will be on the visual representation of the poem and the sophisticated metaphor used to describe aging. Starting with the visual aspect of the poem, Pratt uses a pattern of line length to imitate the visual aspect of waves hitting their mark and then shrinking away. This represents “the sea” (1) which, although are usually assumed to be associated with inconsistency and unpredictability, in this poem takes a different meaning.…

“The Tide Rises, The TIde Falls:” The Way It All Ends I chose this poem because it highly relates to the real world in the way we live and die. What began to grab my attention was the way it utilized the imagery and the way that it speaks about death in a hidden way, but yet in a sense that you are still able to understand that it is about the way life ends. The poem's theme is death, it is the message of the author trying to tell us that life ends and people constantly come and go because no one lives for eternity, but yet life will still continue.…
