Egoism’s premise is everyone at all times. In every situation a person is always looking out for their own best interest. There’s no such thing as altruism. A person would think at first, “I think this way right …show more content…
There is no higher/objective culture by which to judge any culture. Therefore everyone must tolerate all cultures. Most people think they think this way and that they want people to be who they are and not to judge people from where they come from and be open arms to all people. In reality, they only think this way partially. When going into more detail about Cultural Relativist they are saying that they would not be willing to stop any other beliefs in other cultures. There are a lot of different cultures and beliefs all over the world, things they do are absolutely horrifying some people. For example, incest, homosexuality and adultery are looked down upon in the Christian faith, but not everyone is Christian and they believe in one or more of those things. Most people think incest is universal wrong thing to do but in Sweden two people of at least one of the same parent are able to marry. Cultural Relativist believes that this way of thinking is a great way for everyone universal to get along with one another. It cannot work that way because one culture’s belief could be to no tolerate any other culture but its’ own. It would be a fairy tale ending if all people all over the world could get along, but it is just not possible to be able to get everyone to be open minded like that. Everyone all over the world is at different time periods than others. In 1906, William Graham Sumner wrote, “The "right" way is the way which the ancestors used and which has been handed down.” If Americans truly went by this then we would still have racism and even worst slavery, because our ancestors were the ones who said that this was the way to live and that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. should have never stood up
