The process is performed by identifying defects in the system and eradicating theses defects. Target can use the six-sigma process to the variation of employee performance, store process and corporate process at their multiple locations. Also, since target manufactures some of its own goods this process can be used to reduce the defects of its merchandise. Target can also use the best practice of internal benchmarking. This would involve comparing data internally to a set of standards. This would be useful to track individual store performance. Each location could be evaluated and determined if the location hit the benchmark set by the corporation. This would give Target a simple way to detect if one specific location was struggling or needed a new improvement process. Lastly, Target could use an external benchmarking system. This would entail taking Target’s data and comparing it to other organizations in the retail industry. By using external benchmarking this would allow for Target to determine its performance against its competitors. By finding the areas that Target does not perform as well as competitors will give the company a better idea of where to focus its need for change. Personally I would need further development with the process involved in proposing an intervention project in person to a major corporation. Another aspect that I would need further development is the small details involved an OD intervention. For example, what if something goes not quite as planned during one of the processes. How will an unforsaken circumstance affect the process and how will it be handled? Also, issues like how to address a noncompliant employee or contract partner will need further developed.
