The world is a place full of people who will face different circumstances and situations. At times, it depends on the lifestyle the individual either was born into, involved in, or heavily associated with, that can sometimes be the predictor of how their life will turn out. Whether the circumstances are positive or negative, only that individual can decide what they will allow to influence them. Furthermore, no matter how deep a person is involved in something, he/she will always have the ultimate power to change what does not feel right to them. As Carl Bard (n.d.) said, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” With that being said, I had the pleasure of interviewing a …show more content…
Ryan deals with poverty in several different ways. Ryan was unemployed, homeless, and his education level stops at the 10th grade. He bounces around from home to home. He attempted to find jobs; however, his lack of education makes it difficult for him to get one. Whenever, he does land a job he has a difficult time making it to work, because he did not have a dependable means of transportation. According to Ryan, he did not qualify for welfare because he does not have and active address to use. Therefore, food stamps and health insurance was out of the question. Even when it comes to his masculinity, he questions it because he cannot to afford to provide for his children, or himself, this is another reason why he resorts to violence. Adams (2007) explains, “Young men with weak oversight demonstrated a premature autonomy and tended to be embedded in networks that promoted high risk behaviors. (Adams, 2007), in addition Adams (2007) describe characteristics of men with high-risk behaviors as “Issues of parental availability, disciplinary regimes, support networks, school functioning, attitude to authority and peer relations were explored in depth. (Adams, 2007). Nevertheless, regardless of the theories that can be associated with Ryan, it is still possible for him to overcome all his problems and not just become a productive member of society as well as, be comfortable with himself without …show more content…
Firstly, the Black Lives Matters movements opened his eyes up to the inequality, and disregard that minorities in America faces. The Black Lives Matters movement influenced it has had on him to attempt to shake the stereotypes associated with the color of his skin. The movement alone has given him hope for change. He has experience being racially profile by the police on more than one occasion. He also witnessed his stepfather murdered by the police. This movement alone meant a lot to him. Secondly, Obama becoming president, made him feel the black community has took a few steps in being more accepted in the nation. Thirdly, The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, it has inspired to try in get more involved with cleaning up the community and making it more
