The Three Signs of a Miserable Job Paper The book, “The Three Signs of a Miserable Job”, is a managers and employees fable by Patrick Lencioni. Lencioni’s book is about how to know when a job is miserable and how to fix it. There are three signs to detect a miserable job. These three signs are anonymity, irrelevance, and immeasurement. Anonymity is the first sign of being at a miserable job. Anonymity can basically be described as being anonymous in the work place (not being known). The problem with this is that humans have a continuous desire to be purposeful and to be recognized. When neither of these feelings are present in the workplace, the person will feel adequate and only the bare minimum will be accomplished. Not to mention the various psychological effects that take place in the person’s mind such as higher levels of anxiety, higher levels of stress, and higher likely hood for depression. Solving the issue of anonymity in the workplace should be number one priority because it’s the root of all miserable jobs. When everyone is known in the workplace, not only will it make a better work environment, but the organization will experience higher efficiency levels. …show more content…
Irrelevance in the workplace consist of not having the feeling of recognition and that their job really matters. When people don’t think that their job matters, they aren’t going to feel purposeful and will experience dry out. Just like with the problem of anonymity, people need to feel recognized for what they do for the organization. When everyone in the workplace feels recognized for what they do for the organization, the organization will grow and expand to greater heights than ever thought possible. This is because an organization is made up of people, not the other way
