As a diabetic, I decided to learn more about my diseases. Diabetes is called diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is a disorder where your body can not eliminate sugar and as a result, your blood sugar levels remain high. The reasons your blood sugar levels remain high is because your pancreas is unable to produce sufficient insulin, or your body cells are resistant to the insulin your pancreas produces. Symptoms of diabetes are increased thirst (staying unusually thirst), increased hunger (not completely satisfied always remaining hunger) and a frequent need to urinate. There are three major types of variations of diabetes mellitus. You can be Type I, Type II or you could have gestational diabetes. Diabetes can influence practically all aspects of your body. Type I diabetics are normally born this way. Type I diabetes is usually diagnosed at a young age; however, it can appear at any age. You would have to receive injection or quite possibly wear an insulin pump to receive regular injection of insulin. Individuals diagnosed with type I diabetes must depend upon insulin injections for their lifetime to stay alive. They must eat special diets and undergo regular testing of their blood glucose level which monitors their sugar levels. Your body’s immune system is compromised. The cells which create insulin in your pancreas is attacked by your own immune system and destroyed. There is no defined cure for type I diabetes. Compromised immune system, genetic and environmental factors are strong factors in an individual getting type II diabetes.
