There are many explanations as to why Rome fell, but one of the main reason was because of urban decay. In rome the wealthy lived in houses with marble walls. Altough the wealthy lived a luxarious and fabulous life, most of rome was poor. The poor lived in small smelly rooms in an overcrowded apartments. There were 44,000 apartment houses within the city walls of Rome. The condition of the apartments were in adequate and dangerous. The higher the floor of the apartment, the more hot, smelly and dangerous it got.
