Today is it obvious that police officers have a difficult time relating an image of trust within communities throughout the United States. News venues as well as social media have overwhelming captures officers and incidents that are tragic and questionable. The outcry for reform and accountability seems to be at its loudest in urban areas where the streets are plagued with violence and crime. Cities and states where law enforcement officers enter battlefields and there is a lack of trust between them and the residents they are sworn to protect. It must be sustained by a number of stockholders that will allow for departments not be overzealous with technology. The implementation of BWC’s produces more than just video, rather it is an opportunity for leaders to be developed. Therefore, meaning that the use of BWC’s allows for officers to work on their interpersonal skills, overall police image, and customer service while still maintaining a sense of professionalism. On the other hand, it is important to note that BWC should not use as a way to second guess the actions of personnel. All view points of view and the totality of the circumstances should be taken into consideration. Thereby, it is imperative for the proper staff such as training officers, season members, and legal department to be involved in reviewing all policies dealing with BWC. Furthermore, the public should be made aware that the officer’s interactions and investigations are captured in a manner that prevents tapering. Sources of transforming negative images will take more than BWC’s however; it is a step in the right direction. A constant scrutiny on policies and procedures will allow for agencies not to be stagnating when it comes to needs of society. It should be noted at a major source of improving policing and creating community trust is honest transparency that promotes justice and equality for all. Therefore, policies and procedures should address more than individuals concerns but rather Constitutional guarantees.
