Three Elements Of Property Crime

There is no one way to fight against crime that hits our community, there is only a group effort that must be made in order for the criminal element to understand that we are watching and we are not going to lay down and take being victimized. The problem with property crime can be that citizens believe that it is only the owner that must be responsible for theft, but it is the community that suffers when businesses fail because a lack of support. I believe that I have found the answer to our crime problem and propose a strategy to help reduce the amount of crime and in turn bring the community closer together. These elements are each responsible for it. You take the victim out or the opportunity and there is no crime. The victim, which is our community and businesses, is responsible for being an attractive target. The most obvious ways are to make it to where they are not as easily accessible. Locks, motion lights, cameras, and alarm systems are your first wave of defense. The second is the hardest because people work for a living and think that it is only the job of the police to patrol, but they are limited and cannot cover as much ground as we would like. Even if citizens are riding home and see something suspicious they need to call 911 for an officer to check. Street patrols and community watches are a chance for the people to have a proactive role in their community. This strategy is not a new one it is advancing an idea from early days where the people and the police worked together to watch the community and to keep crime down. The first step is to see where the community stands as far as being involved, a town meeting or a series of meetings can be set so that people can voice their opinions and see how they can help. Even students at the university can have a set so that they can be involved. Next is to lay the issues out for everyone to see where we can focus and where the “hot spots” are. The crime rate is formed by collected the amount of crimes reported per one hundred thousand people and dividing by the amount of people in the community, and then multiplying it by one hundred thousand. This number is now your crime rate, but what is not shown is the amount of cases dismissed, handled by officers, or not reported. This unreported crimes are the dark figure of crime, not a dark man trolling the streets, but the amount of crimes that are just not reported to police. This number can be larger than we like to think. A man bets his wife and she doesn’t tell. A guy is raped and does not say anything out of shame. When merchandise is stolen, purses are snatched, or a car hits a parked car and leaves. These are all crimes that can not be calculated into the crime rate so the figure you have may be bad but what we do not know could make it look a whole lot
