In this paper I will be discussing the five categories death is classified into. Those five categories are listed as: natural deaths, accidental deaths, suicide, homicide; which can be criminal or non criminal, and undetermined. I will also tie in the elements of crime. I believe the elements of crime are important to discuss because I believe the two categories go hand in hand together. The elements of crime are listed as: premeditation, intent, negligence, heat of passion, and culpable negligence or depravity. The first category will be natural deaths. Natural deaths occur most likely from incidents such as old age, diseases, heart attacks, pneumonia, strokes, and sudden crib deaths. The five elements of crime consist of: premeditation, intent, heat of passion, culpable negligence or depravity, and negligence. When learning about the classifications of death I think it is also important to understand why these deaths happened. Premeditation occurs when a person has the incident planned out in advance. The incident was not an accident, it was planned to happen. Intent can be broken down into two categories. The first is criminal intent. This is where an unlawful act was performed even though it was known to be illegal. The second is malicious intent. This includes the 1st and 2nd degrees of murder, and it is known that the person chose to be cruel, reckless or wicked. Heat of passion can be defined as a very emotional mind frame that has been faced with an issue that could case that person that is normally a reasonable person, to act unreasonable and on impulse. Culpable negligence is acting recklessly with unreasonable caution, and putting somebody’s life at risk of an injury or even death. The last element is negligence. Negligence is when someone fails to do something for somebody else that others would consider reasonable. I believe it is reasonable to feed my cat’s everyday. It would be neglectful of me to not feed my cats for a week. They could starve to death because they are used to me being their primary source for
