In the year of 1787 in the month of September the US Constitution was written. In the US Constitution we were given three separate branches of government which include; the executive, the judicial, and the legislative. These three branches of government were made up to ensure we had separation of powers, and also so that the rights of the citizens would be protected.
The executive branch consists of the President himself, the Vice President, and a few different cabinets. The one thing in particular I see wrong with this branch of government, that in my opinion needs to be changed is the amount of money that is being spent. I am going to use the President himself and the Department of Justice as an example. …show more content…
At the convention Obama spoke over the Criminal Justice system. He spoke about the percentage of those who are incarcerated and the injustices that come with it. In his remarks he laid out the statistics of the incarceration rates, and he also mentioned the amount of money that is being spent per year to keep people incarcerated in the US. President Obama stated that we spend $80 billion dollars alone just to keep people in prison. $80 billion dollars a year is a great amount of money and way over the budget. The Department of Justice is the largest law office, but is going way overboard with the amount of money that is being spent in their department alone. The DOJ has a budget limit of approximately $25 billion dollars, so the question is why we are spending almost more than triple the amount of the budget just to keep these prisoners incarcerated? This branch of government has a duty of making laws and voting on them in Congress. The legislative branch also controls much of the taxing and how money is being spent. Not too long ago did the Supreme Court rule that gay marriage would now be legal nationwide. The Texas Congress was not too happy about this decision. The branch of government is trying so hard to override the Supreme Court’s Decision in the Obergefell vs. Hodges case. This is where my opinion comes in, I mean what is the big deal Texas? I mean do people not have the right or choice to be happy? This is a free country your able to marry and fall in love with whom you want. So why is this such a big issue with the Texas Legislative branch? This is something I would dearly like to be able to change. The Supreme Court has already passed the law they have already given it an ok because obviously they feel the same way. We as people choose who we want to spend the rest of our lives with and it shouldn’t be a judged issue. The Texas attorney general Ken Paxton was another person who was not too happy with the decision the Court had made. Ken is so against the decision he granted the right for county clerks who were against same sex marriage to not give them marriage licenses. I believe that is already harsh enough why make it worse. The point being here is the Supreme Court supports same sex marriage and I do
