The Three Big Pigs
Part One
Once upon a time there were three big pigs. These pigs were so happy and pleased with their lives. They knew they were the coolest pigs that had ever existed. Their neighborhood was the Beverly Hills of their world. They only wore the newest and most expensive clothes. These pigs had never even heard of slop much less ate it, their menu was only gourmet and organic food. Everything in their lives was absolutely perfect until the little kind wolf moved into their neighborhood. This wolf was gentle and kind, but these pigs found him embarrassing. 51). Once everyone has a clear definition of what bullying actually is than there needs to be a clear response plan put into place. The key to addressing bullying is to immediately respond to it and to make it perfectly clear that it will not be tolerated. There also needs to be a shift in the way adults respond to students when they tell on their peers. All too often a child tries to tell on another student and they get dismissed as being a tattle tale. Children do tend to want to tell on each other for silly things, however an observant adult should be able to tell when it is something that should be investigated. Another way to eliminate a lot of instances of bullying is to constantly have an adult present, this would help especially with younger students. Having an adult present most of the time will seriously diminish the opportunity for a bully to misbehave. Another step in dealing with bullying is to empower other students who witness bullying to not be afraid to intervene. Most students report having witnessed bullying but feel powerless in helping. Bullies typically will back off when confronted, however they usually pick victims they are certain will not fight back. If a fellow student speaks on behalf of the victim a lot of times the bully will stop. However, it must be made clear that violence is not the answer. The only intervention a student should be permitted to do would be to speak up for the victim or immediately find an adult to
