Sea levels are rising because of the enormous amounts of carbon dioxide gas being emitted from the use of fossil fuels; mainly from the United States with China as a close second. Because of our use of fossil fuels, carbon dioxide gas is being trapped in the atmosphere so that creates warmer temperatures, and because of these warmer temperatures, Antarctica and Greenland, along with other areas full of ice in the ocean, are melting which raises the sea levels. These rising sea levels are literally drowning small island nations like Kiribati, the …show more content…
The Marshall Island sits on average 2 meters above sea level, and add to it the island is bowl shaped being at a lower level the closer to the middle of the island. So with the rising sea levels from global warming, the island is at a major risk for disappearing into the Atlantic Ocean. These effects have been seen with the island slowing disappearing over the last few decades with mild increases in temperature, but if the mass emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels isn’t decreased or eliminated, not only would the Marshal Islands be completely covered, but parts of the United States like San Francisco’s coasts, the Boston Bay area, and so many other major costal cities in the United States could be the next victim of rising sea
