On June 25, 1950, the state of North Korea attacked South Korea and started what is now known as the Korean War. Three years later, the war ended in a stalemate after 4 million people were killed. According to “North Korea | Facts and History,” North Korea has poured extensive resources into their military even though it’s agricultural output has been extremely poor. They have also conducted nuclear tests in 2006, 2013, 2016, and most recently in 2017. However, a value that is held high by the U.S. is the idea of not negotiating with terrorists. According to Title 18, part of the definition of terrorism is “any acts...intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population...” North Korea’s threats are intended to intimidate the civilian population and are an attack on American values. Therefore, North Korea should be treated as terrorists in relation to the U.S.. The U.S. must take these threats with the utmost seriousness and increase their pressure on North Korea.. A threat made on human life and U.S. soil is not one to be taken lightly. As we can see, the U.S. must take more aggressive action against North Korea’s nuclear arsenal.
