On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Japan, which ended WWII shortly after. The decision to drop the bomb has been criticized even before it was ever dropped. The use of the atomic bomb was justified because the bomb was the quickest way to end the war and saved millions of American lives. Not only did the bomb save more lives but also a recovering economy. An all out war would have created more economic issues and the US had finished fighting a war in Europe against Nazi Germany. The decision to drop an atomic bomb on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, respectively, was, simply put, a foolish, rash, and depraved action that could be classified as a diplomatic blunder, among other things; certainly it could not be seen as either a military necessity or a scientific experiment: for scientists already knew enough about their project to determine the consequences, at least in the short term, such that if the dropping was an experiment, it was the most morally depraved one ever conducted in the history of man; some historians and other contemporary world leaders apparently believed that the bomb would yield diplomatic benefits and impress the Soviets in such a way as to prevent mounting hostilities--almost fifty years of subsequent history attests to this faulty…

The use of the Atomic Bomb was both necessary and justified as it immediately ended World War II, solidified the United States as a superpower, and contained the germinating powers of Japan and Russia. The use of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki immediately ended World War II and stopped the continuation of catastrophic and widespread violence in Japan. The Japanese had an audacious outlook on their offense throughout the duration of the war. It was suggested by Admiral William E. Leahy that, “The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender”(Source 2).…

due to its large military, “The total strength of the Japanese Army was estimated at 5,000,000 men… the major fighting would not end until the latter part of 1946, at the earliest” (Document #3). The size of Japan’s military and the estimated prolonging of the war provided the U.S. with an uncertainty that they would not have liked to accept. To eradicate this uncertainty and provide a rapid end to the war, the U.S. took the opportunity at hand and launched both atomic bombs. In the end, this decision proved triumphant as they evaded a lengthy battle with Japan and ended the long, treacherous…

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan was a sad and tragic event that killed thousands of innocent Japanese people. This fatal event could have been prevented with a single decision from our American Government in 1945. Our American government and President Truman decided that it would be better to take the lives of Japanese civilians, than to use a different plan that could have saved their lives. Michael Barnes is correct when he argues about atomic bombs being unnecessary to use in World War Two, because it took the lives of innocent people, it may have been racially motivated, and alternatives could have been made instead of using this weapon of mass destruction.…

Many argue that the destruction caused by the atomic bomb was unjustifiable due to the sheer loss of life. But the use of the atomic bombs on Japan was justified as it shut the Soviet Union out of Japan and created nuclear deterrence that led to a relatively peaceful era. The relations between the Soviet Union and the United States were troubled since the Soviet Union’s inception.…

Albert Einstein once said, “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Atomic Warfare in 1939-1945 cost a total of 199,000 lives, a majority of which were Japanese civilians- mothers, children, and innocent men. In World War ll, Japan had a heavy aversion to surrender. However, the Japanese government was already on the brink of yielding- leading many american scientists to believe that it was, in fact, not necessary to destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In hindsight, the U.S. was not rational in bombing the Japanese mainland, because 1) Japan was nearing complete destruction, 2) options which protected japanese families were available, 3)…
