The story, “The Third Wish” by Joan Aiken, takes place in a swampy type area in the forest. The genre is fantasy because there's three wishes granted by a forest king and there's no such thing as wishing. Mr. Peters, Leita, and the forest king are the main characters in the story. Leita is a swan, but changes into Mr.Peters wife which causes her to miss her old life and makes Mr.Peters feel sad for her. To show the theme of not everything someone gets stays, people come and go and people's lives. the author uses emotions and character development. The main issue is Mr. Peters wife died and he gets 3 wishes from a “king” and he wishes for his wife back. The swan turns into his wife but then she wants to go back \to her old life in the swamp as a swan. She says that she does wanna be with him but she wants to go back the forest with him. The lesson in the story is not everything you get is what it seems or stays. The author states, “Now he understood that Leita was really a swan from the forest, …show more content…
This is displayed throughout pretty much the entire story. For example Mr. Peters. The story starts with him driving home through some back roads in the forest. But than he hears something in the forest and hops out of his car to see what's going on. Than he helps a swan, finds a king, and wishes for Leita. This is character development because it literally develops the character. Another craft move the author uses is description. An example of description was in the very beginning of the story when Mr.Peters was driving. The author tells what the setting is which is a forest of Savernake. Than is says that Mr.Peters was driving his car at dusk on a spring evening. Next it says it was bare and
