The play, "The Third Wave" was a true story from around 50 years ago about a new teacher at a high school who simply wanted his students to get a first-hand idea on how Germany was ruled during the Third Reich under the totalitarianistic Nazi rule. In the beginning of the play, the history class was just starting their lesson on Germany and Nazi rule. The teacher encouraged the students to ask questions about the time so they could obtain a better understanding. One girl asked,"I just don't understand how the people of Germany let the government manipulate them so much, and why didn't they do anything to stop it?" This question was the start of something ambitious, the teacher came up with an idea that would really show the students what life

The Triumph of the Will, a documentary from 1935 set in Germany, revolutionized cinema when Leni Riefenstahl captured and exalted the fearless Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler and his infamous Nazi party. The film uses powerful imagery of Hitler himself and adoring crowds to emphasize his deity like leadership and the people’s love for him. In a time of insane rule, Riefenstahl’s picture was the propaganda for the Nazis that pushed its ideals through techniques that gave them false hope for the future of Germany in a ruthless and fascist regime. I will endeavor to investigate what techniques such as mise en scène and sound Riefenstahl uses to capitalize on the pathos of the viewer to follow the Nazi regime and their cause. Nazi Germany in 1935 was under the influence of the authoritarian ruler Adolf Hitler.…

I was extremely excited to watch Brooklyn College’s rendition of Speech and Debate. The reasoning behind my excitement was that whilst reading the play written by Stephan Karam, I quickly realized that it’s humor and authenticity were aspects that I typically enjoy to a great extent in stories, whether that be in the form of a television show, movie, or play. I also felt that I was readily prepared to watch the show meticulously and focus on its acting and casting aspects. I chose the acting facet of the production to be the focal point of my review yet again because I understand that I could have pushed further and been more detail oriented when writing my previous review. Brooklyn College’s Speech and Debate had a small cast of four actors.…

It is often difficult for modern high school students in this country to fully understand the Holocaust. We live in a world filled with instant communication and relative ease. It is commonly believed that innocent people will be treated fairly and not be mistreated without good cause. Such was not the case in the areas that fell under the iron hand of the Nazi regime, under Hitler’s rule. There, a person’s ethnic background could be all that separated an individual from life or death.…

For example, the film demonstrates modern, tall, and big buildings across the nation so that the future generations would see the modern rebirth of Germany during Hitler’s reign, specifically after the suffering from the First World War. Moreover, the film demonstrates the performance of the military and their weapons such as modern vehicles with machine guns to illustrate the power of the Nazi’s Party under the guidance of Hitler. Notably, while the military was performing, the camera keeps switching between Hitler and the swastika symbols which this action may signify the Nazi’s powerful nation. The film also succeeded in capturing emotions through its Nazi’s narrative. For example, when Hitler gave his speech at the memorial of the dead Germans in WWI, which he glorified as heroes of the…
