He’s comparing death to a book to imply that death forever stays with us.It's just a book that has not been checked out by anyone. It lies high above on the shelf where. This metaphor was made in order to indicate to the reader that the people we lost and care for will always be us even when we are not cognizant to it. Just as books are around so are dead people, all it takes is tapping into it and thinking,writing or talking about it to bring it back to life. The metaphor suggest to the reader just like books people can live forever as well.
