A way in which the book changed my mind is by realizing how important are the opinions of others to them. They kept him safe”, shows that any thing that the soldiers believe that is important could make them change their mind because they would believe that it would give them luck and safe them. Henry Dobbins carried his girlfriend's pantyhose and anyone would think that clearly the pantyhose is not going to carry any luck. But if you think about the situation they are in, it makes you notice why they believe that. They are risking their life and they are always in danger. Any item that carries a memory or moment gives them hope. That's why we should respect their decisions because they are living in harsh conditions and they always have to stay alert because they might die.
