The Things I Carry

The things I carry vary by where I am. Where I spend majority of my time of my life is at school or in my head and on my shoulders. I attend Vintage High School and walk to five different classes everyday and then to the parking lot at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. I have six hours to think. As I walk to my destinations I posses a backpack filled with utilities I use to throughout my courses. I carry the backpack on my back hoping it will supply me to develop my educated brain to execute my understandings from the past years of learning. As I walk into every class, the things I carry in my backpack is one binder of lined paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, erasers, folders, one graphing calculator, a Macbook laptop, Iphone, a water bottle, and a hairbrush. The supplies I carry throughout the day are a big part of me. Not only is supply shopping my favorite part of the school year, but the supplies allow me to complete high school. Since I was born, I was diagnosed with congenital deformity microtia which is a deformed ear. I am also deaf out of the ear. Every day since the first person noticed the deformity, I carry one “normal” ear and one “deformed” ear. I also carry situations that involves the worries, the laughs, the cries, and bullies as reminders that I am not the same as MANY people. When I walk into class I carry the worry that if I do not sit close enough to the front of the class then I will not be able to hear, or if I sit next to the student who is a loud writer or worker, my ear would zone out to that noise. The worry of when I wear a ponytail and someone will notice it for the first time and laugh. The way I describe what the ear makes me carry may see it as a big deal of being deaf and deformed, but to me, I only carry a small
