Dear whoever,
The thing I carry is my keys. My keys hold a special value in a way. It lets me know the things I have access too. In a way it provides a sense of security and preparedness. I carry my keys every day for the mere fact of the things I have access to in case of an emergency. For example if I ever come across an incident that requires first aid, then I am prepared. Another would be if I need access to a firearm for personal protection I can do so. I have access to hiking, hunting, shooting, and survival gear. These keys are almost a lifeline that I need. No one makes me carry these keys other than myself. The decision is mine to be able to have all these tools and resources at hand. I never wish to put it down or to abandon them.

They are a tool that helps me get better tools if needed, after thinking back to all the time when I needed my keys I reflect back and think “what if didn’t have them?”. It’s hard to imagine trying to solve the problems and situations I’ve faced that were aided by my keys, and trying to them without them. I can recall one instance where a fellow peer needed a jump because his battery was dead. If I wouldn't had my keys i couldn't've helped him. There would be no access to my jumper cables which were locked in my vehicle inside mt gearbox. Thankfully I did have my keys and was able to secure a charge for him and help him get back to his home. Plus not to mention another peer had the same issue just the other day. Thankfully I had my keys. We were able to diagnose his starting problems and figured out that his starter was bad in his vehicle. Another student needed help checking his oil that same day and i was able to get access to materials to help me check his oil and other fluids. These are just a few examples of me having to use my keys. The last two occasions happened they same day! It goes to show why I carry my keys and value them as a valuable asset to my person and my everyday

In The Things They Carried, Tim O'Brien suggests that the war itself changes a person, the changes could be negative or positive. The negative effect is the war is like a disease that takes over your body and reorganizes everything inside you making the outer layers of you to be unrecognizable to people. For instance, when Tim talks about Lemon fear of the dentist and how he got over the fear: "...something about dentists that just gave him the creeps .... Lemon kept insisting, so the man finally ...yanked out a perfectly good tooth" (O’Brien 83-84). Lemon obviously have this strong fear of dentists he had this fear for so long, but it takes fainting and the embarrassment of the war for him to get over it.…

Basically, it all depends on the situation in which you find yourself. Additionally, it also reflects on the person carrying the weapon. You might actually feel safer around…
