Individuality is something that distinguishes man from society. As a result, we know that everyone has different motivations and barriers to physical activity. The purpose of this work is to get to know some of them in the student university. The information contained here is the result of interviews and is based on the self-determination theory (SDT) developed by Edward Deci and Richard Ryan (1985, 1991). Its theory consists of two concepts: motivation and basic psychological needs. Motivation gives energy to action, and perseverance in pursuit of the goal. People can be motivated by various factors: internal and external.

Participants were two boys (basketball player and footballer) and one girl (not regular sportsman). The level and frequency of physical activity of the respondents did not affect the course of the conversation. During the interview, a question was asked based on the theory of self-determination. It is used in evaluating the work of employees, as well as in analyzing the physical activity of people. The motivations and barriers of people depend on the individual preferences of each person. And this method allows for grouping and understanding of them.
As a result of our research, we can say that sex is not very important in terms of barriers and motivations for physical activity. We can say that human motivation is based on the same basis but different in practice. The interviews show the great influence of external motivation, namely, material benefits. This is even the answer of one of the participants in the interview who, when asked about his motivation to start sporting, replied: 'Parents bought cool boots to play'. This only confirms that it is our parents that shape and show the way, and only then does motivation come to us in order to achieve our goal. This means that internal motivation has the greatest impact on people.
