The element of commitment in Hirschi’s theory supports school failure-delinquency link. Students who are committed to education are less likely to involve in delinquency. In order to do well in school students must be involved in school activities; however it’s much harder to commit than it is to stay involved. Those who are motivated to commit to studies are more likely to display minimum delinquency behavior.

They would argue that only the individuals who defies the law would be punished. For them to be punished and incarcerated, the public can be safe because the bad guys are locked up where they can’t further harm. A restorative justice advocate would say that the conservative stance is too strict; severe punishment doesn’t always deter criminal behaviors. Instead, restorative justice repairs and builds and understanding between the criminal, victim, and community. Reintegrative shaming is a more humane way for criminal to reconcile with current society. Often times repeated criminal behaviors is at the fault of the lack of reintegration with society.
