Milgram conducted an experiment inside of an experiment technically. He had the real experiment of obedience then the fake one of punishment to hide the true experiment. The purpose of this study was to see behavior aka obedience in a strong situation that causes deep consequence to others. He had forty males of participants between the ages of twenty and fifty. With jobs that vary from corporate to plumbers and doctorates to high school diplomas. One of the participants show up to the station with the other and the experimenter explains to them how everything works for punishment by electric shock. There are two roles the learner which is in a separate room and getting the shocks and the teacher giving the shocks. The participant out of the forty males is the teacher. The teacher reads pair of words from the packet, reads down the first list once and the learner is supposed to memorize the pairs. After The teacher is to read the large words and …show more content…
I am sure the answer to that is in the first paragraph but it is just a theory and is deeper than that. There are a couple reasons to why people obey. Whoever is in charge is near the person being told what to do is a factor. If the person in charge was not around what was being told that is dangerous probably would not have been done. For this experiment also when the experimenter was in another room the obedience dropped to twenty point five percent. Also how close the teacher and learner are plays a part, if the teacher hears reactions after each voltage it affects how he continues on with the experiment. So there is the main reason that people obey is because of social forces around them. It also depends on certain situations that impact their decisions is what I think. Just think of today how people drink and in some states smoke under the state age. If the authorities were around at those moments and people were told to drink or smoke they would not and obey the law. I just honestly think that people can obey or disobey to any situation as they please. But as soon as it affects them or people they know in danger then it is hard to obey or disobey. For example at home when I was younger my parents would be at work and tell me to wash my brother’s clothes. I would disobey them because I didn’t feel like doing it. But if they were home at the time and told me to I would have obeyed swiftly because
