Perennialism Perennialism is a psychology whose main basics is to in simulate western civilization fundamentals as present day teaching mechanisms. As an idea, perennialism’s objective is to create a system of unchanging information (Educational Philosophies Definition and Comparison Chart pg. 1). Education is based on the essential understanding of recurring to the past and to reason and faith. Mostly neo-Thomism has been most apparent in perennialism, but idealism and realism have also been found in the theory of perennialism (American Education pg.77). Christian studies of the Holy Scriptures and stressing a faithful relationship with God while still teaching intellect and rationality are the basis for curriculum. Curriculum consists of all the liberal arts such as the following: mathematics, philosophy, history, geography, sociology, languages, physical and life sciences, political sciences, literature, fine arts, and humanities. In order to complete the curriculum of the perennialist, peoplemust completely understand all of these subjects. Although this is a very utopian idea for a teacher, sometimes that is not the case. For perennialism to exist there would have to be a sanctioned religion in school systems. Also, teachers would have to be watched very thoroughly to make sure that they are holding up the standards of perennialism.
