Do you wear t-shirts to support you favorite sports team? Most of the people wear a t-shirt of their favorite sports team, when their team is playing on the field. People also use pom-poms of the team color and different posters and flags. These things; shirts, pom-pom, and posters represent their love and support for the team. Many people who I know wear the shirt during the games of their favorite sports' teams. Similarly, in literature, writers use symbolism to represent the meaning of something or the overall theme. Hawthorne also used a lot of symbols to represent the theme of the story “The Scarlet Letter”. He used the scarlet-A, forest, and the scaffold to help the readers figure out the theme of “The Scarlet Letter”.

Hester and Dimmesdale went there to talk and relieve their sorrows after seven years. The forest listened to all their grievous talk and. They also felt a sense of solace knowing that no one could listen to them and find out about their secrets. Hester got courage to confess her secrets to Dimmesdale about Chillingworth being her husband. This could be seen when Hester said: “‘That old man!--- the physician!--- he whom they call Roger Chillingworth!--- he was my husband!’” This shows that Hester did not want any burden in her and wanted a free mind by telling Dimmesdale. More so, through that quote, Hawthorne also shows that Hester was comfortable enough in the forest, to talk to Dimmesdale about Chillingworth. Hester also said: “‘Let us not look back’, answered Hester Prynne. “‘The past is gone’” (182). This shows that Hester felt at ease and wanted to get away from everything.
