My story, “Powder” symbolizes the themes of rebellion and love. “Powder” tells a story about what my dad did to keep his family together and happy.
It began when my dad planned a trip with me in hopes of enjoying quality time together. However, he had to first get his my mom, his estranged wife, to allow me to go with him. “He’d had to fight for the privilege of my company, because my mother was still angry with him for sneaking me into a nightclub during his last visit, to see Thelonious Monk” (Tobias Wolff). After, this Mom was disappointed at him. She was refusing to allow me to go on my father son vacation. Dad was doing everything he could in hopes of her changing her mind. “[My dad] wouldn’t give up, he promised, hand on heart, to take good care of me and have me home for dinner on Christmas Eve, and she relented” (Wolff). To my surprize however, she let me go. He had made a huge promise to take good care of me and bring me back. We went on their trip and enjoyed our time there at the resort. When the trip was near completion and it started to snow wey decided to do a few ski runs. Father looked at his watched and said to me “Criminy, this’ll have to be a fast one” (Wolff). Shortly after that, he noticed it was getting late and he had remembered his promise to my mother, he would bring me home on time.
