Iago manipulates Othello in believing that his wife, Desdemona is cheating on him with Cassio. In the first act of the play, Iago is telling Roderigo that he should tell Brabantio, Desdemona’s father, that she married Othello. In act two Iago says, “With as little a web this I will ensnare as great a fly as Cassio,” (2.1.166-167). Iago plays to use Cassio to show that Desdemona is cheating on him. This means that trough the manipulation of both characters that Iago’s plan will work. Iago in the image is behind Othello, which represents that he is behind the scenes not just working Othello but others around him. When Cassio asks Iago what he should do, Iago tells him to talk to Desdemona, Othello’s wife, so that she can put a good word in for Cassio (2.3). While to Cassio this sounds like great advice, Iago is manipulating him, so that Othello will believe that Desdemona is cheating on him. When Iago is talking to Cassio is an key moment. If Cassio does not believe Iago the rest of the play could not take place. Iago, like the image, is overseeing everything around him making sure everything goes as plan. Iago has to give Cassio the handkerchief, so that Othello can believe that Desdemona is cheating on him. This means he has to think creatively how to give him the handkercheif. In the Othello image one, we see that Iago is looking down at Othello, which shows that he is planning to do something, using his way of manipulation to change Othello. Iago is standing in the image which shows that he is overlooking the entire plan, that he us manipulating everyone around so that his plan succeeds.
