Taylor Adams Reflection

Taylor Adams is not only someone who is in the learning community, but is someone I have grown really close with over the past two months. At the beginning of the school year, Taylor’s first impression of me is that I was very weird and too much. “I just thought you have a huge personality and I did not think I was going to mesh well with you at all”; that is what Taylor said when I asked her about her first impression of me. Since Taylor could not quite understand me, it would only be fitting for me to choose her to interview. Taylor’s five signature themes include: developer, positivity, adaptability, woo, and empathy; I decided to only focus on her empathy and positivity themes. Personally, I do not understand how a person can be positive all the time despite circumstances. Here is what Taylor had to say about her positivity strength:
“Positivity will help me in my life because it gives me hope. Every circumstance does not have to be bad, I just think positive. Positivity will enable me to get through anything life throws at me. Just think positive, it isn’t that hard. You never know what the result will be. At its best, positivity shows people that I will never give up. Thinking positive about what you want to happen, just might give you that boost finish the task, such as a group paper.” (Adams) Taylor has never directly been criticized for being positive, just encouraged nor has she misused positivity. Knowing positivity will get her far with any job she chooses, Taylor really loves her positivity strength. That is understandable, if it is going to get you somewhere then use it. The conflict with me and positivity is how do you remain positive even through the worst of circumstances. Her response was, “I am not sure, you just do it.” That is a legitimate response, but it just did not help me to understand the strength

In the three essays written by Dillard, Appiah, and Pratt, they all use different examples but focus overall on the same “big picture”. They’re all part of a larger conversation, but they each stepped back and put in their own point of view on this subject. The main subject they all discuss is seeing. Dillard talks about how what people see is what they get. If they look for positivity and see positivity in everything, then they will get positivity out of it, and vice versa.…

Barbara Ehrenreich writes this book as a way to inform readers about the hazardous effects of positive thinking and the way it has warped our perception on how we deal with obstacles in life. The book shows the effects on the business, religious, and especially personal and morbid level when she speaks about her confrontation with breast cancer. She speaks about how she was exposed to the “pink ribbon culture “ and was overwhelmed with crazy optimistic, inspirational phrases, where the word victim is considered taboo. But a merry outlook, she argues, will not cure cancer. This is when she first realized the negative effects of positive thinking.…
