The Yellow Wallpaper And A Rose For Emily

Throughout our readings in class I have noticed an overarching theme that has tied them together. The broadest of which is that they deal with big, hot topic issues that we are still facing today, such as racism, women’s rights, abortion, love triangles, addiction, and maturing in general. More specifically, I will be focusing in on how the authors have used women to portray their thoughts in their stories. In each of these stories, if not the main character one of the main characters is a woman. We will be looking at Roman Fever, Hills Like White Elephants, Everything That Rises Must Converge, The Yellow Wallpaper, and A Rose for Emily. In Roman Fever and Hills Like White Elephants we see two different ways to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. The first we see that the child is kept even though the man is not and to Mrs. Ansley that seems to be worth a lot more than getting the man did to Mrs. Slade. On the other side, we see a woman that chose abortion in order to keep her man happy and this gave her much trouble up until she went through with the act. I also noticed that in both of these stories you see two different ways men deal with the women they care for that is stuck. Julian is very arrogant about the fact that he is better than his mother because he welcomes the change. Meanwhile the Negro,Tobe, that cared for Miss Emily was very respectful about it, but this seems to be to both the better and detriment to Miss
