The film Life is Beautiful is a 1997 Italian comedy-drama film directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. Benigni plays Guido Orefice, a Jewish Italian book shop owner, who employs his fertile imagination to shield his son from the horrors of internment in a Nazi concentration camp. Along with his wife, Dora and son Giosué they navigate the extremely harsh conditions of a concentration camp and because of this, the theme of family is extremely prevalent boosting the morale and courage of each member. Benigni uses framing, sound and screenplay to effectively convey the strong and conquering theme of family throughout Life is Beautiful.

In a scene shortly after they get on the train, the family arrive at the camp, begin walking in a line and Guido is instantly set on selling the convincing story to Giosue. This is primarily conveyed through diegetic sound, in which Guido convinces Guiso to play along and imagine the concentration camp as a game and not realise its true intentions. It is quite clear to see that the Benigni is focusing on the sound in this scene as there is not many cuts and the camera revolves around them observing them from different angles, however mostly stays at a medium shot and this is used to not bring a lot of attention to itself ; it stays neutral. Some close up shots are used to focus on Guido and Guiso talking and the lighting stays consistent involving the audience in the dialogue and what the two characters are saying.
